Community Service Links
Between rank advancement, merit badges, and eagle scout projects, community service is a big part of the scouting program. Following is a list of local organizations and other ideas for service hours. Most of these volunteer opportunities require parent or other adult supervision. Please email the webmaster if you have ideas to add to this list.
- Lower Bucks County Red Cross: Youth volunteers can help prepare/serve meals, stock the food pantry, or do landscape cleanup at the Red Cross Homeless Shelter (New Falls Road, Levittown) with adult supervision. - Interfaith Housing of Bucks County: Youth volunteers can participate in home building projects, or can help organize the furniture warehouse. Contact Jacquie Strand, jstrand@ihdcbc.org or 215-945-8630 x105.
- Trenton Area Soup Kitchen: Volunteers are needed to prepare/serve meals on week days. Must be 13+. Contact: Mary Ann Dobson, maryannd@trentonsoupkitchen.org.
- Lower Makefield Township: Lots of Eagle Scout project ideas such as renovating playgrounds, hiking trails, etc. Contact Terry Fedorchack, Township Manager at 267-274-1100 or tfedor@lmt.org.
- Churchville Nature Center: Lots of opportunities for Eagle Scout projects and other community service projects. Contact Diane Sears, Coordinator of Volunteers at (215) 357-4005 ext. 16 or dvsears@co.bucks.pa.us.
- Woods Services: Serving people with special needs since 1913. Volunteers assist with the Buddy program, crafts/recreational activities, and special events., Contact: Victoria Brossy, Coordinator of Volunteers at Volunteers@woods.org.
- Adopt-a-Highway: Scenic River Road between Calhoun Street Bridge and Macclesfield Park collects a lot of trash. Scouts can help by cleaning a section of this road (with adult supervision). Penn-DOT will pick up trash bags and other garbage collected. Cleanup is also needed at the Yardley Boat Launch. Contact Michael Gordon.
